Amy Carnahan

Artist’s Bio:
Amy Carnahan graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a minor in ceramic art. She has since been living and working in Little Rock, Arkansas, dividing her time between architecture and ceramics. Little Rock has provided various outlets for her ceramic work including the Arkansas Arts Center and University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Amy currently works in her home studio. She looks forward to continuing her ceramic education, either through a graduate school program or a traditional pottery apprenticeship.

Artist’s Statement:
I visualize my ceramic work from a spatial perspective, considering how each piece will exist in and contain space. The void within is as significant as the form itself. I use the potters wheel to create proportional, curved pieces whose symmetry is later altered into a form that is tilted, sheared, stacked, and bent. I enjoy the prospect of a perfectly symmetrical cylinder that can be re-shaped to suggest alternative functions and spatial relationships.
