ARWTC event hosts US Department of Commerce

On Wednesday, March 14, the Arkansas World Trade Center hosted an event with many state government officials, business leaders, and local community leaders present. The event was a reception for Colleen Litkenhaus, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Domestic Operations for the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service. After many presentations, Litkenhaus took back information about the growth in Arkansas and  the need for a US Foreign Commercial Officer. To see her biography, click here.


 

International Business in ArkansasThrough the Arkansas World Trade Center, University
of Arkansas enters into agreements with two Italian universities.

Students and faculty in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas will soon be able to study in Italy, thanks to agreements developed through the Arkansas World Trade Center.

On a trade mission to Brescia, Italy, in February, Walton College entered into an agreement with Università Degli Studi Di Brescia and Instituto Internationale Per Lo Sviluppo Sostenibile. The trade mission was coordinated by the Arkansas World Trade Center.

Northwest Arkansas Business Trade- AWTCDelegation travels to Italy to establish trade and academic connections.

Dan Hendrix, president and chief executive officer of the Arkansas World Trade Center, and Joe Ziegler, chairman of the economics department in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, led the Arkansas delegation. Congressman John Boozman of Arkansas joined the delegation for lunch with the U.S. ambassador to Italy on Feb. 21.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the Arkansas World Trade Center to build relationships for Arkansas and this region of Italy," said Hendrix. "At the same time the mission has the potential to impact international studies and programs for the UA and give our students and faculty yet another international relationship."

Northwest Arkansas BusinessChinese ambassador visits

The Arkansas World Trade Center welcomed Zhou Wenzhong, Chinese ambassador to the United States and his wife to the offices on Saturday, January 20, 2007.

"I've seen lots of growth here," Zhou said. "I have seen a friendly attitude toward China and the area seems supportive."





Arkansas World Trade Center established
The University of Arkansas has entered into an agreement to become a member of the World Trade Center Association, one of the few universities to enter into such an agreement. University officials believe the trade center will bring together businesses and government agencies involved in foreign trade to enhance the economic outlook for the state of Arkansas and the region. It will also offer practical experience to UA students interested in global economics.
